New Featured Column – Track Record
I’m rolling out a new featured column called Track Record – a gut reaction catalog listen.
Track Record is a new section of the site where I listen to an artist or band’s complete studio catalog and give short, gut reaction commentary on each album. I probably won’t include things like live albums, compilations, EPs, greatest hits collections, or other oddities, unless it’s warranted. I’ll also post the line ups of each album, just for fun. I also like to read the stories about the albums on Wikipedia as I go, just to get some additional information. I pull the line ups from there also.
In today’s day and age, music has become more and more disposable. Streaming is everything, and sometimes people who remember the world before digital music have a hard time grasping the concept that younger folks don’t even know what an album is, unless they’re into vinyl. When I was young, it was a big treat to put an album on by a band you liked and enjoy it from start to finish while looking at the artwork and reading the liner notes and lyrics. I think some of that may be lost on newer generations. That’s not a good or bad thing, just different.
Unlike podcasts, the commentary here will be short and digestible. It’s like free association, but with music. Hopefully it’ll generate some discussion in the comments as well. I’ll take suggestions for future listens (with no guarantees.)
So thanks for visiting and reading. I hope you enjoy the column!
The first one will be up soon and it delves into the world of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship, and more. For the second column, I might go a little harder and give you my thoughts on the AC/DC catalog.
Stay tuned…🎛️📻🎧🎚️🎵🎶
